The AEAWA would like to thank all the hardworking SOC members who kept the wheels turning for our state emergency service when faced with the infamous ‘blue screen of death’ on Friday.
Working in the room is challenging at the best of times. Our members in SOC deal with panic and fear, trauma, anger and abuse. They perform their task under the continuous scrutiny of management and are faced with an audit percentile that would terrify the average paramedic. For our colleagues in SOC, ‘one job at a time’ is a mythical concept that has never been experienced.
Having all the IT systems fail catastrophically and being forced to revert to paper in this environment would have been absolute chaos. Adding to an already high-pressure, high-stress environment, we can’t imagine just how busy and overworked they must have been.
Sadly, your critical role as the first and most crucial emergency contact point often goes unrecognised within this organisation. Without our team in SOC, those in need wouldn’t receive any calm, reassuring advice and medical guidance, and of course, no ambulances could be dispatched. The AEAWA committee would like to thank you for your hard work and share the sentiment of guys on the road, which has been universally one of respect and commendation for your efforts and professionalism.
